The front mounted or integrated splitter group permits the gear ratios to be divided again; That is to say a low and a high ratio can be selected in each main gear lever position. In this way, the steps between adjacent ratios are reduced. The entire ratio range can be split into small gear steps, which can be selected in succession. Furthermore, the splitter group in – creases the range of ratios by an additional “half-ratio”. The gear cluster provides a second constant input ratio, engaged pneumatically with a lock-synchronizer mechanism via a two-stage cylinder. The control system for this shift feature consists of a pre-select valve on the gear shift lever and release valve at the clutch pedal. As required, the high or low ratio is preselected at the shift lever and engaged when the clutch is depressed.
